Project Overview

During my summer at Snapchat Web, I worked with my mentor to design features that made video calls more accessible. One of my key goals was ensuring the interface worked seamlessly for users with disabilities, while also streamlining engagement across the broader user base.

While the specifics for this project are restricted under an NDA, my key contributions included:

Developing responsive frames that standardized over 20 video chat screens, with live video chat captioning, enabling the delivery of accessible and cohesive designs.

Conducting usability tests and heuristic analyses to identify pain points in the current video chat interface, informing flow prioritization

Enhancing labeling and layout documentation for interactive elements and components within the Snapchat Design System to support consistent implementation across the platform.

Thank you to the entire Snap Team

My immense gratitude to the entire Snapchat team for welcoming me into such a beautiful office (and for providing me with some exquisite meals, the foodie in me was seriously going crazy this entire summer). Also special thanks to my design mentor, Neil Sekhon, and Design Director, Matt Fitchner, for all of the life advice and career support!

Taking the time to reflect

Always question and adjust; when thinking about publishing flows, I constantly questioned the intention and proposed solution to see whether it actually addressed the issue at hand.

Be a self-starter; this summer taught me to always seek out opportunities for learning and improvement without constant guidance. This allowed me to take more ownership of my designs.

Designing within systems; this was my first project working within a large corporation’s design and product ecosystem. Thus, working with more senior designers, I learnt to also consider business value, feasibility, and product value for other users.
